The secret is out! You have to alkalize your body. Certain foods are more harmful to our bodies than others. The big question is how do we determine which food is bad and what is actually good for our bodies. Well, a starting point is by looking at food in a different way. And that is from an acidic or alkalinity point of view. But what does this really mean?
Well, the pH (potential of hydrogen) of your body is largely responsible for general health and overall well-being. This acid/alkaline balance is not to be mistaken for the acid in the stomach though. Healthy stomach pH is more acidic – typically at a pH of 3.5, for the proper digestion of food.
So the ideal blood pH should be between 7.365 and 7.45 in order for your blood to carry the nutrients and oxygen to vital parts of the body. When the acid/alkaline balance is disturbed it can cause disease, weight gain, immune deficiency, slow digestion and elimination, compromised liver function, yeast/fungal overgrowth, and low energy, only to name a few.
As you all know, the typical western diet consists of lots of acidifying food, which includes dairy, sugar, meat, most grains, eggs, processed and canned foods. Common habits like coffee, tea, alcohol, and tobacco are extremely acidifying. I have come across a study done at the Loma Linda University in 1973, that states when you consume about 100 grams of sugar, your white blood cells are about 40% less successful in killing bacteria. If you did not know, your white blood cells are protecting your body against infections and diseases.
When we ingest too many acidic forming foods, it can build up in our body tissues and not be discarded. Our bodies have a daily limit regarding the buffering and getting rid of acid.
Your diet needs to be fairly alkaline with lots of alkaline vegetables and fruits. Believe it or not but lemons are one of the most alkalizing food available. Start your day with a glass of mineral/plain water, with freshly squeezed lemon. It is very refreshing and paves the way for clean eating throughout the day.
